Closest thing to “official” that we’re going to get!

There have been rumours and speculations for months, yet, still no official word from the band or their management as to what is going on with the line-up for Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Josh Klinghoffer, long time friend of John Frusciante & the band, has been rumoured to be the new guitarist for the band. Then other reports, such as Josh’s old official site JKDN, stated that “Josh’s role in the band is not confirmed and remains subject to speculation”.

On one of Blackie’s (Anthony’s dad) latest blog entries, he posted a video of the MusiCares performance from Jan 29th and referred to it as the “New RHCP”. Further to that, in the latest interview from Chad Smith, which I believe is from the same event, Chad talks about the progress of the new album:

CS: It is a new direction because we’ve got a new guitar player, Josh Klinghoffer, and he’s an amazing musician, so it’s obviously gonna change. But it’s also gonna change because we’ve got a new guy in the group, and he’s very talented, very musical. It’s fresh, it’s fun, everyone is in a good mood, everyone is coming up with lots of good ideas, and I just look forward to what the future is gonna bring. I know it’s gonna be different and exciting. It just makes me really happy to get up everyday and go to rehearsals, because I know something new and cool is gonna happen, and so I’m looking for it; it’s awesome.

So it almost seems confirmed that Josh Klinghoffer is in fact, not only the newest member of RHCP, but also the “new guitar player”.Well at least this is the closest to an “official annoucement” as we are going to get for the moment.

One thing is for sure, the excitment and anticipation is building and we’re all hoping to here something from the band SOON!
